ACS National Meeting Symposia Funding Requests

Symposia at ACS National meetings: The Division of Inorganic Chemistry (DIC) solicits suggestions for symposia to be organized as part of the inorganic programming (INOR) at one of the future national ACS meetings. If you would like to suggest the organization of such a symposium for an upcoming ACS meeting, please submit your proposal no later than February 15th for consideration at our Spring Executive meeting (held during National Spring ACS meeting) and by July 31st for consideration at our Fall Executive meeting (held during the National Fall ACS meeting). Requests for national meeting symposia should be submitted at least one year in advance prior to the proposed National meeting at which the symposium will be held. Late submissions will not be considered.

We highly suggest that you reach out to the sub-division chairs for the sub-division in which your symposium would fit. With limited programming capacity, pre-coordination with sub-division chairs is more likely to result in a successful proposal.

Symposia submissions must be for at least 3 HDS. All symposia submissions must support contributed talks - 1 HDS worth of speakers must be contributed, including 30% from trainees, not from the organizers' laboratories. All symposia must have an accompanying poster session.

Symposia approved by the ACS DIC executive committee will be financially supported according to the following scheme: Up to $1500 will be allocated to each half-day session. Funding should be used to help defray the speakers' costs (registration and travel expenses), and 33% of the funding must support contributed talk presenters (consistent with the percentage of total talks).

Submission of requests for joint symposia with other ACS divisions is encouraged. Those organizing such symposia should work with each ACS DIC subdivision regarding the number of requested sessions and associated funding.

The DIC welcomes the organization of symposia in honor of ACS awardees but does not provide financial support for such symposia. Requests for ACS National Meeting symposia to honor the achievements of specific individuals are also not supported.

If you are organizing such an event and would like to be considered for funding, submit an application using the form below:

Cross-listing of symposia at ACS meetings: If you represent another ACS division and would like to request that one of your symposia be cross-listed with INOR, please contact the ACS DIC Chair prior to August 1, annually for symposia to be held at the Spring ACS meeting or prior to March 1, annually for symposia to be held at the Fall ACS meeting. Any request submitted after these deadlines will not be considered.

Assistance with Symposium Donor Fund Management: The ACS DIC is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization that can accept and disburse donations in support of an approved symposium. The current Division treasurer will be copied on symposium approval messages and can detail how the Division supports symposium fundraising.
