Guidelines for Nominations Committee

  1. The Chair of the Nominations Committee is appointed by the ChairElect of the Division as soon as possible after assuming office. The Committee should consist of three or more members of the Division. It is recommended that the ChairElect consult with the Subdivision Chairs concerning the composition of the Nominations Committee.
  2. The duty of the Nominations Committee is to present to the Executive Committee at the Fall Meeting a list of one or two nominees for each Divisional office to be filled in the following year. These nominees must be members of the ACS and of the Division and must have agreed to serve if elected. Upon approval of this list by the Executive Committee, it is presented to the members present at the Annual Business Meeting of the Division for their approval. At that time additional nominations may be made from the floor.
  3. Early in the year, the Secretary of the Division will provide the ChairElect and the Chair of the Nominations Committee with the following information:
  • a list of offices to be filled in the Fall balloting;
  • a list of past officers of the Division; and
  • a list of unsuccessful candidates for Divisional offices in past elections.

4. It is highly desirable to form the Nominations Committee before the Spring ACS Meeting so that the Committee may meet at that time.

5. Nominations for Subdivision officers are to be collected by the Nominations Committee from the respective Subdivision Chairs or their designees. Each Subdivision Chair should appoint a Nominating Committee which will make nominations to the Subdivision Chair for transmittal to the Nominations Committee.

6. In the past, Division members have expressed their wish that candidates for Divisional offices should be representative of the academic, industrial, and government communities.

7. The Chair of the Nominations Committee should provide the Secretary of the Division with biographical sketches of all candidates (for inclusion in the Fall Newsletter) on or before September 15.
